Dog Training - Train Your Dog To Be Happy While You Are At Work

Dogs are trained for all sorts of reasons. Some dogs are trained to protect, some to hunt, and others to work. Dogs have a great work ethic since they always aim to please, so there are many occupations that "employ" animals. This article will give you some ideas about what profession your pooch could be trained for.

When it comes to grooming activities, familiarize your pet with common handling as early as possible. Dogs require grooming regardless of breed and getting your pet used to having her paws, face and ears handled regularly makes the grooming process less stressful for both of you. Whether you do your own grooming or have it done professionally, train your dog to accept handling common to grooming.

Do not issue a command to your dog that involves two words that do not go together. For example, telling your pet to "sit down" does not make sense; either tell him to "sit" or ask him to get "down." Using contrary phrases delays the training process because your dog does not understand what to do.

If you want your dog to be trained to your standards, it is up to you to put the effort in to see the results you want. You must absolutely love your animal, and they will be trained in turn and love you in return. If you love them, they will feel the connection and training will be much simpler.

When training a dog, make sure to stay consistent. Keep a list of commands to use and make sure everyone who might need to command the dog knows them. Also make sure to be on the same page regarding rewarding good behavior and never rewarding bad behavior. Having different people respond differently can confuse the dog and make training more difficult.

Set a routine as much as possible when training your dog. Dogs respond well to regular activities such as exercise or bathroom breaks, so putting them on a routine encourages good behavior. Feed your dog at the same time each day to further establish a routine and be as consistent as possible.

When teaching your dog how to walk on a leash, hold your ground if he attempts to pull you. Plant your feet and do not budge until the dog stops pulling. Your dog will realize that he gets no where by pulling. When you are able to get him to walk beside you, reinforce the habit with treats.

If you are looking to train your dog, make use of a variety of resources such as magazines, people who have your breed of dog, general books and books specific to the breed of dog you are looking to train. Customize your training program for the dog so you can optimize their success.

As stated in the beginning of this article, there are many dogs who are trained to work in different occupations. Dogs are devoted, loyal, hard workers and are an asset in the workforce. Hopefully this article has given you some ideas about the different professions available to your four-legged friend.
